"Fish Wishes "

Ten year old Matt wakes up to find his fish, Oscar, floating in his bowl in the most traumatic experience of his short life. His parents hold a funeral for him in the backyard and when Matt is left alone, he puts a note beside Oscar's popsicle stick cross. His mother reads his note later on and decides to write back to her son as Oscar from beyond the toilet bowl. What starts as an innocent letter to help her son through his grief, slowly becomes a scheme to trick Matt into being a model student and first rate clean freak. His desperation to get his fish back finally pays off, but, sometimes children are smarter than we think.

Director Statement
Children are misunderstood. They are bombarded with cute images and are spoken to as one would speak to a dog or a cow. Adults voices inherently raise three octaves when speaking to a 10 year old, but the child is usually given candy, so they don't mind. Kids are smarter than we think they are, and though they do not have the book smarts, they've got more than meets the eye. Why right now, your child could be plotting against you, hatching an ingenious plan to get their precious cookies from the cookie jar.

Sometimes, however, it is the parents who hatch magnificent plans. Plans like, Your face will stay like that, and, Too much TV will make you radioactive. Sooner or later, kids will catch on, and when that day comes, watch out!

We can't fool them forever, so please, pay attention.
