Rory Magnus
"Robot Dreaming"

A robot captures a man and performs a series of experiments on him in order to learn exactly what makes a human a human. When it glimpses images conjured from the man's dreams the robot is confronted with a force it cannot define. This film probes ideas of consciousness, artificial intelligence and the increasingly blurred line between man and machine in the post-human age.

DIRECTOR BIO:
Born and raised in Barnstable, Massachusetts to eccentric but loving parents, Magnus was instilled with an artistic inclination and a wild imagination early on in life. Fairy tales, mythology and legend, related to him and his siblings by their Wiccan mother, became the basis of his creative exploration. He earned a double Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art and Visual Media Production at Framingham State College in Massachusetts in 2007 and is currently working towards an MFA degree in Film Production at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Having made nearly a dozen other short films and video works, Robot Dreaming has been his first major project using stop-motion animation. Magnus' next project will be animation as well. Entitled The Purple House, it will continue to explore and expand upon some of the more peripheral themes in Robot Dreaming- namely, ideas of junk, baggage and the deterioration of memory and dreams- as well as notions of matter and the interconnectivity of all things.
