David Finley started out writing fiction. He had five short stories published in Canadian literary journals. For many years, he has worked as a television writer and story editor. He has written drama, soap opera, children's live action and animated programs.

In 1996, he was a Gemini Award Nominee for Best Writing in a Children's or Youth Program.In 2003, he received an Award of Excellence from The Alliance For Children and Television. David ventured into the world of live theatre in 2004, writing the book for 'Aladdin', which was staged at Toronto's historic Elgin Theatre. For this effort David won the 2005 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Musical. In 2005, David wrote the book for the new musical comedy 'Snow White and the Group of Seven', also staged at the Elgin Theatre, and he was nominated for the 2006 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding New Musical.

'My Last Confession' is David Finley's first film. It was shot on Super 16mm film, over five days and in one location. The film is an entirely self-financed project. It has been accepted to 31 international film festivals.
