"Hope for Tomorrow"

In a brief moment of Venice Beach's urban reality, a Bag Lady meets a young woman and asks her for help. After initially refusing, the Girl finds compassion for the Bag Lady and gives her food. The unlikely couple end up sharing a meal together and establish a true human connection, which fills them both with hope for tomorrow.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

Each day we encounter strangers, people who are close to us, yet seem so alien and different. Sometimes forced to make a connection, two humans find an unexpected bond between them, creating a fragile link of affection. I find that such little moments of significance reveal profound truths about life... how one's outlook can influence the future, how being compassionate pays off, how survival and happiness are relative to hope and expectations.

My wish in making Hope for Tomorrow, was that the audience would feel a sense of life's mystery when experiencing the surprising moment of kinship between the Bag Lady and the Girl. I wanted to create a slice of life that indicated how deeply a person can be affected by an unsought encounter. My intention for this film reflects the wonder I have experienced when I have managed to cross boundaries of communication and get a glimpse into the unexpected world of others. My goal as a director and storyteller is to eventually be able to convey such moments of truth based on bonds of joy. For I believe that joy and faith are stronger than pain and desperation.
