Childhood can be a marathon of quiet--and unremarkable--desperation; VACANCY dispassionately examines the formative experiences of a young boy emerging into that realm of uncertainty and longing which marks the onset of preadolescence. In a world of passing acquaintances and missed connections, life is sometimes little more than a bittersweet memory in the making.

Ten-year-old Reid (Jordan Anderson) is spending the summer of 1983 far from home, stuck at a remote roadside motel with his parents (Elise Robertson, Robert Wesley). Fending off boredom is second nature to loners like him; but when a captivating girl (Gina DeVivo) checks in with her family, Reid suddenly finds he has way more than enough on his mind. Filmmaker's bio: Steve Hosford is a graduate of the Cinema Program at San Francisco State University; "Vacancy" is his first attempt at dramatic storytelling. In addition to striving for a career in film (either as director or actor), he plans on returning to school someday to pursue a growing interest in math, astronomy, and physics. Originally from Northern California, Hosford currently resides in Los Angeles, where he looks forward to getting involved with some local theatre productions now that the all-consuming process of producing "Vacancy" (which took the better part of two-and-a-half years to complete) has reached its conclusion.
