| I was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1957 where I learned filmmaking on the streets. (You can learn a lot of things on the streets of Brooklyn.) When I was in 2nd grade, I discovered an old 78rpm recording of Beethoven's Symphony #3 in my Grandmother's apartment and immediately realized that there was a rich, vital, and creative world beyond the confines of my provincial Brooklyn neighborhood.
I saw my first avant-garde films in the 1970s (Deren, Brakhage, Anger, Gehr, etc.) and realized that there were other people in the world who were doing what I wanted to do. That inspired me to do it even more. The next three decades saw me dividing my energy in three directions simultaneously: (1) creating avant-garde films/videos, (2) creating a family, and (3) creating a career in advertising. (Since 1999, I have been an assistant creative director at J. Brown/LMC Group, a Stamford, CT-based agency.) In 1994 I was privileged to direct the late, great Mr. Quentin Crisp in Red Ribbons, a micro-budget video feature that I also wrote. (Red Ribbons is available on video from Water Bearer Films, www.waterbearerfilms.com.) Now that the child-raising and career-building stages of my life are nearing the completion stage, I've re-dedicated myself to my video work. In the last few months, my recent work has been accepted in a wide range of venues/festivals: NewFilmmakers series at Anthology Film Archives; Dahlonega Int'l Film Fest; Rooftop Films; Flickerings Fest; Cascade Independent Film Fest; Bearded Child Film Fest; Seven-Minute Film Festival; Denver Int'l Experimental Film Festival; Triangle TV (New Zealand); Squeaky Wheel TV; Back Alley Film Fest. I have also had a solo screening of works at Millennium Film Workshop in New York City. |
