TODD HUGHES BIO:
Armed with a movie camera since 1972, Todd Hughes is that rare entity -- a truly independent filmmaker. He has seventeen short films under his belt featuring the screen debuts of everyone from supermodel Jenny Shimizu to MAD TV's Mary Scheer, "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow to writers Justin Tanner and Hilton Als, comedienne and Nellie Olesons' founder Nora Burns to artists Larry Johnson and John Boskovich. Todd's first feature film, THE NEW WOMEN, co-written with P. David Ebersole, features cult superstar Mary Wornov (EATING RAOUL), Roma Maffia (PROFILER) and Cheryl Dunye (WATERMELON WOMAN) among others and is a post-apocalyptic adventure where women wake up one day to find the world at a standstill, with all their men in irreversible comas. Released theatrically in 2002 by Vagrant Films in Canada, THE NEW WOMEN has just been released on DVD and video by Ariztical Entertainment and is available at fine retailers and video stores nationwide. Todd's latest short, HUBBY/WIFEY, features Dominique Dibbell and Jamie Tolbert Franklin as Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas and will be making the queer festival circuit this summer. Todd and P. David also wrote a short film for Showtime Networks called VIOLATION which is directed by Darrin Henson and stars Cynda Williams and Malik Yoba.

Todd's last notorious project, DING DONG, about door-to-door salesladies who turn out to be lesbian serial killers, played nearly fifty film festivals and was the surprise hit of both Outfest in LA and the San Francisco International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Cult star/actress Ann Magnuson raved, "DING DONG should have been John Waters' last film!"

A working screenwriter, Todd has written five feature screenplays with Ebersole, including THE DEVIL MADE HER DO IT about the relationship between screen legend Jayne Mansfield and Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey; and WHOEVER YOU ARE I LOVE YOU, a romantic comedy optioned by the Mutual Film Co. Todd has also finished the script for LATIN BOYS GO TO HOLLYWOOD with Andre Salas.

Born in Salt Lake City in 1963, Todd grew up in Claremont, California where he developed a passion for directing at a young age. Recruiting schoolmates and family, Todd directed many short films and plays from grades 3 -12. Arriving at Columbia College in New York in 1981, Todd continued to explore theater and filmmaking and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature with a minor in Film. Todd moved to Hollywood after his underground work got him rejected from three major graduate film programs and proceeded to complete a plethora short films before his first feature. In 2001, Filmmaker Magazine put Todd on their cover as one of the "25 New Faces of Indie Film"!

He currently resides in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles with his partner of eleven years and husband of three, P. David Ebersole. An avid aficionado or all media, Todd is also Creative Director of New Media Ventures for the American Film Institute and has appeared on E!'s MYSTERIES AND SCANDALS as a "Silver Lake historian."
